The Underworld by Kevin Canty

So this author is said to echo the likes of Russell Banks and Richard Ford in his style.  To me, this read like a masculine version of chick lit.  It wasn’t my style, but I neither found it good or bad, and I didn’t feel I wasted my time reading it.

Based on a real-life mining disaster in Idaho in the 1970’s, this follows the lives of several characters who are affected by the aftermath: families, widows, survivors.  Mainly it centers on grieving and love and how they deal with it.
