The Underdogs: A Novel of the Mexican Revolution

by Mariano Azuela

I’m sure this novel has merit.  That’s probably why I am giving it 2 stars.  However, I just didn’t like it.  The chapters were too short, which made for quick reading but there wasn’t much cohesion.  Too many characters to keep track of, with some of them having two names used interchangeably.  The characters were not likable at all (and maybe that’s the point?).  I just could barely finish it.  Thank God it was a short quick read.
